In May of 2010, Dan and his business partner, Lorn Scanlon, purchased a building in the downtown core of Oshawa, Ontario. Dan felt it was extremely important to locate his television studio in the downtown core. Not only would the new location increase the studio’s visibility, the renovation of the building would make a significant contribution to the revitalization of the Oshawa’s downtown. The building, circa 1885, suffered from neglect and needed intensive renovations. It is now one of the hallmark buildings on the main street in Oshawa and has spurred on development of other buildings in the area.
Dan felt it was important to create not just a television studio but a place where students from the local college/university could come and learn and actually participate in the production of his daily news program. It has been an amazing success and the interns are receiving an enriched educational opportunity and a truly hands-on experience that they would not likely get anywhere else in conventional television.
